Pointers

Upgrading

• http://www.mysql.com/doc/en/Upgrade.html
• use mysqldump to dump your tables before upgrading
• after upgrading, reload the dump file using mysql to re-create your tables.

mysql command line

• msqyl -u userid - connection to mysql
• msqyl -p -u userid = prompt for password
• use databasename; = select database
• show databases;
• show tables;

adding and removing database

CREATE DATABASE dbname; DROP DATABASE dbname;

adding a new user

GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO 'monty'@'localhost' IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass' WITH GRANT OPTION;
