SubNotebook computers are sweeet! Unfortunately, my picturebook recently died after about a year and a half of very heavy use. Since I bought my 3rd generation picturebook at a steal of a price on the net, I had only a 1 year warranty. This time I'm not buying anything with less than a 3 year warranty.
Crusoe
The crusoe chip, by
TransMeta?, is the chip that powers the picturebook and lots of other subnotebooks. Very energy efficient since it can reduce power consumption on-the-fly based on the amount of work being done.
Dynamism
This company imports Japanese laptops into the US. They process all warranty service through their Japanese office and they cover shipping costs to have warranty work done. Unfortunately most of the warranties are only 1 year...
Sony
There is no longer a picturebook available for the american market. Their new TR series is the closest thing in the US, although it sports a hefty pricetag at $2500 with a 5 year warranty (5 year warranty only available in person at the
SonyStyle? store. Only a 3 year warranty available over the web).
